Finishing the Run

Our sponsorship run for refugees

On Sunday, we had a unique opportunity: a charity run.
The first round took place in the morning, at 09:45 am, and the second in the afternoon, at 02:30 pm, with 82 runners in total. All of the participants had chosen sponsors beforehand, who would donate a specific amount of money for each lap (approximately 670 meters) that would be completed within 45 minutes.

Many interesting runners took part:
Some had multiple sponsors, one young fellow for example had 25 sponsors and he alone was able to collect 1.642,50 EUR. One girl had fever, but still wanted to "walk" some laps slowly, so she could help to raise funds. A few kids were participating, too. An 8-year-old girl ran the 45 minutes and completed 8 laps. A 6-year-old boy, while holding the hand of his father, completed 9 laps. In total, the donations amounted to 7.250 EUR and will support two charitable organisations in Offenburg that help refugees.
There was a lot of cheering to motivate the runners to keep running. It was fascinating how committed the participants were; they were a good example to others, and had a fun time while doing good to those in need. Solomon says in Proverbs 14:21: "Blessed is he who is generous to the poor." You could see the joy in the faces of those finishing the run. It was a great opportunity to love our neighbour.
